The short answer
Sea freight is the cheapest way to move most goods into Ghana. 7AS Trust arranges FCL (full container) and LCL (shared container) shipments to Tema and Takoradi from all major origins, and clears and delivers the cargo on arrival, so there is one quote and one contact for the whole journey.
Container options
| Equipment | Internal volume (approx.) | Common uses |
|---|---|---|
| 20ft dry | 33 m³ | Heavy, dense cargo: tiles, steel, bagged goods |
| 40ft dry | 67 m³ | General cargo, furniture, mixed goods |
| 40ft high cube | 76 m³ | Light, bulky goods: textiles, plastics |
| Reefer | 20ft / 40ft | Chilled and frozen food, pharmaceuticals |
| Flat rack / open top | Varies | Machinery and out-of-gauge cargo |
Volumes are typical internal figures; payload limits depend on the carrier and container.
Main origins
China and the Far East, India and the Middle East, Northern Europe and the Mediterranean, Turkey, North America, and intra-African routes. Tell us the port of loading and incoterm and we will quote carrier options with transit time and free days.
Free days matter as much as the rate
A cheap ocean rate can be wiped out by demurrage if the line gives only a few free days at Tema. We negotiate free time where possible and plan clearance around it. Try the demurrage calculator to see what an overstay would cost.
LCL into Tema
Shared containers are received at a consolidation facility, stripped and cleared per consignee. Allow for the extra handling time and the fact that one consignee's documentation problems can delay the box's devanning.
Frequently asked questions
How long does sea freight from China to Tema take?
Port-to-port transit is commonly four to six weeks depending on the carrier and transhipment route. We quote the scheduled transit time with each option.
Is LCL always cheaper than FCL?
Not always. Once your cargo approaches roughly half a 20ft container, a full container can cost the same or less and clears faster.
Can you ship to Takoradi instead of Tema?
Yes, where the carrier calls there. It often makes sense for mining and Western Region deliveries.
